Workplace culture is in flux. Traditional business and professional service firms may have historically created culture based on gaining consensus and an established hierarchy, rather than on empowering employees through a sense of ownership and commitment.
These outdated approaches were much less effective when most employees started to work from home during the pandemic and were required to make decisions on their own. A SHRM study found two out of three companies reported keeping employee morale up to be difficult during the pandemic, and one-third said maintaining company culture was a challenge.
