Culture Trend #1: Emerging from crisis, companies focus on culture.

 

Workplace culture in the transportation industry is in flux due to the impact that decreased volume and increased consumer demand had on transportation and the supply chain during the pandemic. Every mode of transport – trucking, air, rail, and ports – have felt the impact of cargo delays, safety restrictions, and staffing issues. In spite of these disruptions, essential transportation workers kept cargo moving through the supply chain.

Underlying all of these challenges is a fear of Covid-19 in the workplace and the continued uncertainty of how economies will perform, and which situations may change. Moving forward, safety is an even larger concern than before. Transportation companies are working closely with government and labor representatives to tackle operator fatigue issues, reinforce a culture of safety among operators, and implement risk management programs, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

A SHRM study found two out of three companies reported keeping employee morale up to be difficult during the pandemic, and one-third said maintaining company culture was a challenge.
