O.C. Tanner’s Dave Petersen Named Utah Business CEO of the Year

March 16, 2017 — SALT LAKE CITY

O.C. Tanner, the global leader in helping organizations inspire and appreciate great work, is excited to announce its President and CEO Dave Petersen has been named a Utah Business CEO of the Year. The CEO of the Year Awards honor executives who exude innovation, show sound business judgment and have seen proven financial success. Whether in a private, public, government or nonprofit sector, these individuals have proven to be successful leaders within their companies and their communities.

“Dave is the kind of leader that always puts people at the heart of strategy. He aligns business goals in ways that motivate every individual to see their role in the organization’s success,” said O.C. Tanner Senior Vice President of People & Great Work Mindi Cox. “The thing about Dave is, to his core, he is loyal and dedicated to O.C. Tanner and its mission, and he orients everything around how to care for the people that care for the company—clients and employees alike.”

“David is a great leader because he listens to others,” added O.C. Tanner Chair of the Board Carolyn Tanner Irish.

Dave Petersen has been with O.C. Tanner for more than three decades. After graduating with his Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Brigham Young University and earning his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, he joined the company as a market research manager in 1983 and has remained with the organization for the entirety of his career. Petersen quickly showed his acumen for leadership and scaled the ranks from director to executive vice president to chief operating officer and, ultimately, President & CEO in March of 2009.

Petersen has made invaluable contributions to the success of O.C. Tanner during his time at the company, including several technological innovations, consistent year-over-year revenue growth and profitability, strong team leadership and increased employee retention.

Petersen not only dedicates his time and energy to the many hats he wears at O.C. Tanner, but also contributes his skills to serving the Utah community. He serves on the board of many Utah-based organizations, including the Utah Symphony and Opera, Brigham Young University Alumni Association, the University of Utah College of Humanities, the Cancer Hope Lodge of Salt Lake City and the Tanner Lectures on Human Values.

Petersen will be honored by Utah Business magazine on Thursday, March 16. He is joined as an honoree by fellow Utah CEOs Vance Checketts, Vice President & General Manager at Dell EMC, Alma Jeppson, Founder & Former Chief Executive Officer at Landmark Home Warranty, Frank Maylett, President & Chief Executive Officer at RizePoint, Derek B. Miller, President & Chief Executive Officer at World Trade Center Utah, Ema Ostarcevic, Chief Executive Officer at SEARCH Group Partners, Inc., LeAnn Saldivar, President & Chief Executive Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake, and Karl Sun, CEO & Co-founder at Lucid Software.
