Manufacturing institute honors O.C. Tanner employees for excellence in manufacturing

Step Ahead Women in Manufacturing Award Recognizes
Exemplary Contributions to the Manufacturing Industry

SALT LAKE CITY, FEB. 24, 2015—THE MANUFACTURING INSTITUTE announced that it will honor longtime O.C. Tanner Employees, Janet Bills and Jana Dorsey, with the Women in Manufacturing STEP Award.

The STEP Award honors women who have demonstrated manufacturing leadership throughout their careers, across all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory-floor to the C-suite.

“Jana and Janet are truly worthy of this honor, and we couldn’t be more proud of what they and their teams have achieved,” said Gary Peterson, executive vice president, supply chain & production, O.C. Tanner. “They have garnered the respect of their teams, and through their humble and devoted leadership, have successfully inspired those around them to accomplish great work and grow within their careers.”

A recent study by Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of U.S. manufacturing companies report a moderate to severe shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly skilled production positions.

“These two women are representative of the exciting careers in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute. “We chose to honor these women because of their significant achievements in manufacturing, and the genuine impact they’ve made on behalf of O.C. Tanner, and our industry as a whole.”

The STEP Awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative, which was launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry, in order to attract, develop, advance and retain highly capable female talent.

Currently, women represent 25 percent of all manufacturing employees, but 51 percent of the potential workforce.

Jana and Janet, along with others from across the United States, will be recognized for their leadership and accomplishments during a dinner reception in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2015.
