Culture Trend #1: Emerging from crisis, companies focus on culture.


Workplace culture is in flux. Stay-at-home orders during the pandemic increased the demand for connectivity – for remote employees, schools, and communities at large. To meet increased global demands for their services while remaining productive, the telecom industry had to adapt quickly. Adding to the complexity was the need for a workforce that was primarily in-person (offices, production centers, and stores) switching to a remote work model overnight.

Not only were telecom workers navigating the new normal, but also increased stress levels. PwC cited the inability to transfer some telecommunications work to a remote model as an industry risk. Telecom retail customer representatives and field technicians instantly became frontline workers, adding complexity to the work environment as they interacted with customers and faced potential Covid-19 exposure. 

As telecommunications companies enter 2021, it’s important for them to focus on helping employees overcome shock of the pandemic. Rebuilding trust is a top priority to restore a positive and safe company culture.

A SHRM study found two out of three companies reported keeping employee morale up to be difficult during the pandemic, and one-third said maintaining company culture was a challenge.
